I have a dune buggy I bought almost 3 years ago I was told the engine is a 1953 engine. I got a hold of a guy in my town because I needed a new generator and he couldn't believe I was running an engine of that year, he told me it was worth about 5,000 just wondering if this is could be true. the car starts on the first try every time and runs like a top but the belt wore out. the guy told me the generator is for a 1600 cc so it off sets the belt which caused it to wear. if the engine is worth that much I am willing to sell and buy another engine if anyone is interested.

a 1953 VW motor is just a a standard 36hp 1200cc. Give us the serial number off it and we'll tell you exactly what it is though. Sorry but no way it's worth that much.

I agree with it not being worth much, I would think a buggy should have more power than a stock 1200. People look at any old engine with a fixed generator stand and assume they are rare.
